Electric cars have existed for a long time. For them to become a mass-market product and one of the solutions to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we needed batteries that were denser, lighter, quick enough to recharge, reliable and affordable. We also needed some regulatory pressure, some good reasons to move away from oil and a commitment from the car industry.
