In the 2000s, Groupe SEB was faced with the risk of seeing its markets invaded by low-cost products from Asia. The alternative seemed clear: doing nothing would lead to the death of the Group. We must therefore seek to make quality products that last and make them repairable for a long time at reasonable cost. The design of the products was reviewed to make them easily dismantled. A policy of distributing spare parts at cost price for more than ten years was put in place, as well as partnerships with repairers. A social joint venture will even be launched in 2021 with a social integration association to create a repair centre at Porte de la Chapelle in Paris to supply the Paris region. Then, the Group is starting to focus on the recyclability of products and is launching a policy of sharing objects. As it sells 12 objects per second worldwide, this policy is also good for the planet. Ethical and economic concerns go hand in hand here!
