The Autolib’ scheme is a technical and operational success. But is it also a commercial success ? All its expectations have been met. This electric car-sharing service which started in Paris and now operates in Lyon (under the name ‘BlueLy’) and Bordeaux (‘Bluecub’) is now going global : the latest city where the scheme will be adopted is Indianapolis (‘BlueIndy’). Autolib’ is a rather risky venture launched by a number of entrepreneurs. They include Vincent Bolloré, who, in line with the five generations which preceded him, took his family’s well-known business and decided to invest in sustainable development and technological innovation ; and the members of Polyconseil, a
small company specialising in telecommunications technology and is known for managing bold projects. With Autolib’ and due to the Bolloré group’s ‘clout’ and reputation, Polyconseil has demonstrated its ability to achieve the impossible.
