Bertrand HERVIEU

A former CNRS research director at CEVIPOF, he served as an adviser to several Ministers of Agriculture and to the french Prime minister. He also chaired INRA from 1999 to 2003, before being elected Secretary-General of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) from 2003 to 2009. Appointed Inspector-General of Agriculture, he served as Vice-Chair of the General Council for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas (CGAAER) from 2012 to 2016. He was elected President of the Academy of Agriculture for the year 2018. He is the author of several books on the transformations of agriculture and rural societies, including, with François Purseigle, Sociology of Agricultural Worlds (Armand Colin, 2013) and Agriculture without Farmers – The Unspeakable Revolution (Presses de Sciences Po, 2022), and with Danièle Hervieu-Léger, A Return to Nature in Preparation for Difficult Times – The Neo-Rural Utopia in France (L’Aube, 2023).
