In 2006, the new shareholders at the Parisian cabaret theatre, the Crazy Horse, asked Andrée Deissenberg to become the managing director without realising the size of the task necessary to pull the company out of the red. On her arrival Deissenberg discovered a 'sleeping beauty' living off the inheritance of its founder who had died almost fifteen years earlier. The show lacked sparkle, the repertoire had aged, audiences were dwindling and revenues were plummeting. In order to try to breathe life into the company, the risky decision was made to make significant changes at the Crazy Horse, and make it an avant-garde place open to contemporary artists. The existing routine had to be changed, but care had to be taken to preserve the unique features of the Crazy Horse cabaret, which is really not a cabaret at all...
