Journalists, whose profession appeared in France in the seventeenth century, have progressively taken on heavy responsibilities especially in the economic press. They have to make sure that the information printed is precise and accurate, because they may make mistakes or can be manipulated. This is why press companies which employ them take precautions so that they are not isolated in the face of such risks, thereby guaranteeing their readers more reliable information. However, the arrival of the Internet now means that every citizen can express himself freely across the world. Now is the time for professional journalists to occupy a privileged place in this system, and exercise their talents there, and for newspapers to redefine what they can offer in order to take the best possible advantage of new technologies, while at the same time preserving their uniqueness.
