A solution to the shortcomings of the traditional methods of teaching music in France

When the revival movement for Baroque music began fifty years ago, large European cities renowned for their musical traditions knew how to devise comprehensive teaching methods in keeping with the requirements of this revival. In France, young musicians receive individual training which is completely at odds with what really takes place on the French and the International music stage. Not only is it difficult for these musicians to work abroad, but they also have to resign themselves to being run-of-the-mill orchestral musicians. French musicians Renaud Capuçon, a virtuoso violinist of modern music, and Julien Chauvin, a very experienced violinist of Baroque music, both had rewarding exiles in Berlin and The Hague where appropriate training enabled them to find their true musical identities. The result of their experiences as well as their imagination gave rise to the birth and subsequent development of the Deauville Easter Festival.
