Three years ago, Michelin created a sustainable development study which reports regularly to the executive board and whose progress is closely followed by Edouard Michelin, evidence of the importance which he places in this subject. This initiative has led to a number of different developments: the installation of new departments to make use of used tyres, emphasis on so-called ‘green’ tyres in research, road safety measures, wide-ranging investments in safety and ergonomy in factories, partnerships with local authorities in France and abroad, and SME (small and medium entreprises) development policies. What are the important issues and the practical details of such action to the Michelin Performance and responsibility policy group?
