In 1950, in the rather particular post-war climate, Club Méditerranée was conceived based on ideals relating to nature, sport and the community. A few leaflets, old army tents, a deserted beach… and the idea took off instantly, to be followed by an extraordinary growth over several years. The story of the beginnings of one of the jewels in the crown of world tourism shows that this cult was based on a concept and a spirit which were established from the construction of the very first village, in spite of the delay in the material, organisational and financial infrastructure which took several more years to become a reailty. What is the basis for the model and success of Club Med that saw it evolve from the cheerful chaos it experienced in the early days to the tourist business which it represents today ?
