Should the fixing goals by management be the global model for managing performance ? The balanced score card is a more recent offshoot of this method. Éric Delavallée and Frédéric Petitbon jointly carried out a study to find an answer to this question. Among the companies they researched, only those which implement a model, which they call the "chef-d'œuvre", can benefit fully. They identified several other models which were equally capable of generating performance, but which used different methods. They describe the main characteristics of these models and illustrate using two examples, that of a hypermarket or department store, to describe the "clan" model, and that of the tax department, for the "cascade" model.
