The region of the Somme Bay, which is underpopulated, used to be characterised by little economic activity. There has been scarcely any urbanisation in this region which is lacking in any resources which enhance sustained development, and consequently, nature has been preserved there. This is why it is possible today to revitalise the local economy. Thanks to the tenacity of the association of communes for the development of the Picardy coastline, tourism has finally been developed, so that new opportunities are available to the population. Now one has to control urbanisation to preserve nature, which is the source of this new-found wealth. However, is this a good enough reason to prevent the sea from eroding the cliffs at great expense, as opposed to destroying the land by tourism ?
