Did Ciments Calcia take on a lost cause in trying to win back public approval in relation to periurbanisation and deindustrialisation ? According to Guillaume Jouët, the survival of the company, threatened by the imminent end of the exploitation bylaws, depended on them winning back this positive image. The manufacturer's considerable efforts to respect the environment, as well as the company's policy of co-operation with all those concerned in the region, allowed the industrial quarry sites to be developed in harmony with local projects. The problems of long-lasting development, which the elected representatives gradually questioned also constituted the basis for a constructive though rather weak agreement between the company and the local authorities. For Michel Vampouille, the company has a great deal at stake in the Île-de-France region : harmonious expansion of the region will only take place under these conditions.
