Improvements in the performance of electronic components are achieved by technological breakthroughs. However, the investment required for developing new technologies slows down such improvements. Therefore, even if the gains in terms of speed and strength enabled by SOI (Silicon On Insulator) technology justify the marginal additional costs of manufacture of the components, this technology remains handicapped by the changes to tools and design methods which are required. SOISIC considered that SOI technology was unquestionably the way forward and launched itself into this sector with a business model in two stages : firstly, paving the way by helping the component manufacturers implement SOI technology; and secondly, designing the SOI products which are intended for a mass market.   Improvements in the performance of electronic components are achieved by technological breakthroughs.
