There are nearly fifteen million retired people in France. They have become an essential market for the entertainment industry. But we cannot be satisfied by simply amusing ourselves for twenty or thirty years and still feel fulfilled. AGIR abcd suggests that the retired population should voluntarily use its experience in promoting social services in France and elsewhere in the world. But where does that lead ? Will the retired risk competing with professionals ? But if they have nothing to do, will we not see the same kind of deterioration as is seen in aimless young people ? Do the retired have specific skills that allow them to play a worthwhile role in society ? AGIR abcd’s experience provides a forum for discussion.
