Managing managerial resources has become a major preoccupation in staff management committees in ministries. Can the experience of companies in this field be used by the Administration ? Many of the problems encountered seem similar : for example, the difficulty in predicting whether an executive who is a high-flyer can measure up to the situation he will meet, or to suggest functional careers to people who have strong operational skills. The example taken from the management of the prefectorial body shows that there is still undoubtedly a great deal of progess to be made in the Administration, in order to move on from a logic regarding authority and secrecy to one focussing on real managerial strategy.
