Providing spectators with access to the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games via public transport while continuing to serve the daily commute needs of the Paris region's residents was such a success that even the most habitual complainers were left speechless. There were many challenges: responding to event delays and late finishes; coordinating with the myriad of players involved in the organisation; reorganising maintenance activities, usually divided between the left and right banks of the Seine, while Paris was cut in two; anticipating the many changes to bus routes due to changing traffic restrictions; calling on RATP volunteers to welcome and guide passengers; mobilising 35,000 operational staff in the middle of the summer holiday period... Edgar Sée, with a team of around fifteen people, coordinated this general mobilisation, the success of which created a great sense of collective pride and brought about some lasting improvements to the service provided by the RATP.
