Internationalisation, advent of digital technology, decline in reading: in his eighteen years at the helm of Hachette Livre, Arnaud Nourry fought several crucial battles while transforming a French publishing institution into a global publishing giant. Two years after his departure, the concentration of the French publishing industry in the hands of companies with primarily financial and political interests convinced him to return to the fray to recreate a space for editorial freedom. While it takes several years to set up a publishing house, the undertaking may seem complicated for a new entrant. However, swapping the position of Goliath for that of David opened up new perspectives that led him to imagine a new group based on a disruptive, ambitious model that would attract the best talent.
