Was Weber killed by Uber? The ideal of a democratic Administration, advocated by the German sociologist in the 19th century, and egalitarian with regard to citizens because it is impersonal, is gradually losing ground because of the progress of new, private digital services which pinpoint the specific needs of a multitude of clients. In the face of this danger, should the State strongly reconsider its methods of action, even if this means calling into question the way it works internally? This is the opinion of two young civil servants. They suggest that the State should not limit its modernisation to local specifications, but should be motivated by the strategies of well-known companies in the digital sector in order to preserve its role as guardian of democratic values.
