To reduce our consumption, ideas of bans are flourishing, with two risks: an irrepressible aspiration to return to normal once the crisis is over, and rebellion by those who have no alternatives. Shouldn't we then be encouraging voluntary changes, such as the joyous rise of soft mobility, the vogue for buying second-hand clothes, repair services for household items, etc.? How do we strike a balance between exercising constraint and encouraging virtuous evolution?
